One of Deepika Padukone’s numerous fans (and, she has more than 12 million twitter followers), Komal Sharma, got a great opportunity to meet her favourite celebrity in person. Well, it was not just a brief meeting, but a unique chance to fly with Deepika Padukone in a special flight from Amritsar to Delhi. It couldn’t get any better than this!

Read on to hear what Komal has to say about her experience with Fly With VIP and Deepika Padukone.

Tell us about your experience with Deepika Padukone?

As the flight from Amritsar to Delhi took off, I started having butterflies in stomach. After all, it was a big thing. I was going to meet ‘THE’ Deepika Padukone. When the flight got stable, and the signs to keep the seat belts fastened was turned off, I was called to sit adjacent to Deepika. Deepika was sitting close to her manager, Karishma. I went to their seats and greeted both of them. I was carrying a gift for Deepika, that I gave to her. She graciously accepted it and handed it over to her manager, as the protocol demanded. However, I insisted that she opened the gift before me. While she was opening the gift, I said, “It is very hard to find gifts for celebrities, as they can buy anything in the world.”

She replied coolly, “It’s the feelings and emotions that make a gift special.”

We posed for a picture with my gift.

I told Deepika that I had promised myself that I would visit SiddhiVinayak Temple if I ever met you. And, so, after our last meeting, I went to SiddhiVinayak Temple to thank God, who made it possible. She simply laughed at this.

Then, I told her that I went to her Prabhadevi apartment many times in the hope of meeting her, but her security guards always made one excuse or the other. So, I left cakes and flowers with them.

Not only this, I started telling her about my dreams. I narrated her a few dreams of mine. She listened to them and told her manger excitedly, “She sees me in her dreams every week!”

One of the dreams that I narrated to her was the one in which I was getting interviewed for joining her as an Assistant Manager i.e. becoming an assistant to Karishma, Deepika’s manager. To my utter delight Deepika told Karishma, “We should make Komal your manager. At least, we should give it a shot, only if for a day”. Now that’s what you call a dream coming true. It was an Om Shanti Om moment, where Shahrukh says that if you desire something with all earnestness and sincerity, the entire Universe will conspire to make it happen. I pinched myself to be sure I wasn’t dreaming. Now, that was an Inception moment…making sure I wasn’t dreaming about a dream of mine coming true.

I even told her that I had written several letters to her, however, I was not sure whether she had received them as I didn’t have the exact address of her Prabhadevi home.

Her manager, Karishma said, “Send letters to her office address from now on.” She, then, gave me the office address.

Were you able to take her autograph?

Yes, of course. In fact, we had a beautiful conversation around it. What happened was that I gave Deepika a notepad for her autograph. Coincidentally, it was the same notepad in which she had signed earlier. She happened to notice her previous autograph and compared her current handwriting with the old one. She said, “I think my writing has changed”.

Screenshot_10Were you able to talk to her?

Absolutely. I sat next to Deepika and like an over-enthusiastic fan started bombarding her with one question after another. However, it was not only me who was interested in knowing more about her favourite Bollywood actress, but she was equally interested in knowing about me.

She asked me where was I from. I told her that I originally belonged to Haridwar, but had been staying in Mumbai.

Then she asked me, “What do you do in Mumbai and exactly where do you stay?”

I told her I was a marketing professional and stayed in Kandivali with friends. Most people would have left it at that. But not Deepika.

She inquired if I stayed in a PG accomodation, to which I said ‘yes’.

Deepika laughed when she saw that I had prepared a list of questions and was ticking them off my list. She was taken aback when I told her that I knew all the members of her staff by their names. She, then, began testing me.

She said, “OK, then tell me their names”. I recalled Karishma, Daniel, Jallaludin, Bishnu. She asked me the first name of her driver, Bishnu which I didn’t know.

She replied, “Saam Bishnu. He is with me since Om Shanti Om days. Then my spot boy’s name is Ram. Even he is with me since I started my career. Jallaludin has been with me for 3 years. Karishma has been there for 2 years.”

Karishma corrected her “3 years”. But, I could see she was impressed with all the names I could recall.

I told her I wanted to be a part of Live, Love, Laugh foundation.  She said, “Follow on Twitter, keep re-tweeting, DM your request. So, in future whenever there is some campaign we will surely contact you.”

What were your special moments with Deepaik Padukone in the flight?

I took out my phone and started showing her some pictures. Firstly, I showed her the picture from our last meeting. She surprised me by admitting that she still had that mug with her. Then, I showed her my dress which was the exact replica of her dress.

This got her excited and she showed it to her manager also. She had worn that dress during one of the promotional events for her movie ‘Chennai Express’.

To me, she said, “The dress is looking very pretty. Especially on you.”

It was one of my special moments of the journey. Imagine a beautiful star like Deepika Padukone complimenting me.

What was the most surprising moment of your entire journey?

Well, there were several. However, the one that surprised me the most was when I got up to meet Deepika, I passed through her manager, Karishma’s seat. She recognized me and said, “Oh you!! Back again?”

I asked her, “Do you remember me?”

She said, “Yes, You are Kalpika, na? Kalpana Chawla + Deepika?” (It was a private joke of ours from the last time I had met them, when I had revealed that I had adopted the name Kalpika because Kalpana Chawla and Deepika were the two women I was most inspired from.)

Then she looked at Deepika. Deepika also said, “Oh yes, we have met before.” I cannot describe how I felt at that moment. When a big celebrity like Deepika remembered you only after one meeting, it implied I had registered myself in her mind. It was a big achievement for me.

How did you find Deepika as a person?

Deepika is a very warm person. At the end of the journey, I requested Deepika to record a video message for my brother and friend, and she happily agreed. I even hugged her. When I was hugging her, all I could think and utter was, “This is all I want in life!”

Did you enjoy your experience with

Very much. It’s a one of a kind initiative, that not only helps fans like me meet the celebrities, but also helps a just cause. Also, these meetings are not the run-off-the-mill ones where you only pose and click selfies with the celebrity, but you can actually have an uninterrupted 30 minute conversation with the celebrity.

It was a very smooth process, right from the beginning to the end. I met not only Deepika, but just before the flight was about to land, we also had a 5 minutes photo session with Ranveer Singh and the team. So, I got to spend time with Ranveer Singh as well. It was really a flight journey to remember. I will be participating in all of’s future contests. Besides being a die hard Deepika fan I am now also a fan.
